Magic for Discerning Audiences

New York City is the cultural capital of the world, and New Yorkers wouldn’t have it any other way. For the city boasting the planet’s best museums, sports venues, theaters, restaurants, and concerts, holding someone’s attention requires a special kind of magic. NYC thinks it has seen it all. Boy oh boy, is it wrong about that.

When you are staging an event, be it a corporate function, private party, or charity gala, you rely on other people to keep things running smoothly. No one can be everywhere at once. Worse, other than the host, no one can help direct the party so guests have a good time, unaware of when you are hustling behind the scenes to keep the wheels turning. Someone would need magic powers to do that!

That’s my job.

A Note on Performing During The COVID-19 Pandemic

First and foremost, I am fully vaccinated against COVID-19. A little magic is just as important to keeping sane in these difficult times. In light of the best practices for minimizing the risk of spreading the virus, I developed two approaches for this pandemic era.

Video Meeting Show (Zoom, Meet, Etc.)

I perform a 45-minute set designed around performing via video conferencing systems like Zoom, Google Meet, etc. This is about as socially distanced as one can get, but interestingly it allows me to combine certain close-up magic effects which wouldn’t play on stage with some stage effects that wouldn’t be easy to do in a close-up show. This is a unique opportunity to see a kind of act that wouldn’t have existed were it not for Covid-19.

Live Act

My new live act allows me to perform either in walk-around close-up situations or on a platform, minimizing risk to my audiences and of course myself.

When appropriate, I wear a mask and use props that have been cleaned thoroughly before each performance or are disposable so as to not be re-used and thus exposed to germs. The goal is for my magic performances to be both entertaining and safe for everyone involved.

Testimonials

Brilliant. F***ing brilliant.
— Paul Haggis, Academy Award Winning Screenwriter and Director
His close-up magic is astounding, and creates a memorable experience for your guests. I believe that Mark’s rate is very reasonable, considering how much value he can add to an event, and would strongly encourage you to consider him for your next party.
— Julie Chen, Activities Manager, The Yale Club NYC
Working with Mark was great as he was able to develop a new concept for an artwork which I would have not been able to embark on before.
— Yinka Shonibare, MBE, RA
Mark was very professional in dress and demeanor and was perfectly comfortable roving through the crowd and interacting with our diverse student populations. Mark truly entertained and shocked our students with his up close magic, including tricks with cards, coins, and other items. Mark possesses a high level of skill; groups of students gathered to watch and interact with him throughout the afternoon. In conclusions, I highly recommend Magician Mark Philip Lichtenstein. I am confident that other groups will find Mark to be equally professional and find his magic amazing.
— Jennylee Ramos, Assistant Director of Student Activities, Temple University
Mark Philip Lichtenstein completely rocks.
— Kylie Edmond, Rock & Rawhide
Mark Lichtenstein performed at our wedding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Several months later our friends still get excited talking about his magic. Many wedding guests commented in their thank you letters that they were blown away by his memorable metal bending and mind reading. We found Mark professional and charming, and would recommend him to anyone. He would certainly be a highlight of any party where he performs.
— Brian M. Fenty, Executive Chairman, Todaytix.com
We’re still scratching our heads as to how he seemed to defy the laws of nature right in front of us. Having a magician is a really great talking point at a party, creating a lasting memory. Mark is a great guy and we certainly look forward to our next opportunity to see him in action.
— Mrs. Judy Hamilton & Mr. Douglas A. P. Hamilton, Managing Partner, Hamilton Investment Partners

I’m M. P. Lichtenstein…

…But you can call me “Mr. Lichtenstein”.

I’m a second-generation magician. My father brought me into the community of magicians, who have been very generous with me over the years. I believe magic is a powerful tool, but only when you apply it to specific ends.

I perform live close-up magic, parlor and stage magic, and I’m even behind the development of a magic performance feature for Google Assistant. My work usually combines what are broadly defined as mental effects, such as mind-reading and mind over matter, with elegant traditional magic.

When performing in a social situation, a magician can be incredibly beneficial, however, the style, content, and staging of the magic need to be specific to your event. For more on this, read about my services.

Though I am based in New York, I spend a significant amount of time in the UK. When there, I can be found at The Magic Circle, the most exclusive magic society in the world, of which I am a member.
